Ashford Park Elementary "Distinguished School"
Ashford Park is a lively elementary school nestled in a charming Brookhaven community. The school was established in 1955. Currently, Ashford Park serves a diverse population of 575 students, representing as many as 15 countries. Our teachers are highly qualified and possess a wide variety of educational levels and experience. They work diligently each day to meet the needs of all students.
The APS leadership has worked closely with parents and the community to establish an excellent educational program that has resulted in higher student test scores and elevated success. Students enjoy a safe and positive learning environment..Over the past five years, the focus of expanding cognitive abilities, promoting social/emotional growth, and developing physical skills has led to well-rounded students. Learning is further enhanced through a variety of Special Area programs which include: Discovery (Gifted), English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Special Education, Counseling and Guidance, our students receive art, health/PE, Technology, German, Band, Strings and after-care programs.
WHAT’S HAPPENING AT APS
APS is now a STEM Certified Elementary School. APS earned AdvanED STEM Certification in March 2017.
Increased test scores on the 2017 Georgia Milestones assessment! Ashford Park is now ranked among the top 5% of schools across the State of Georgia. Our ranking jumped 31 spots from 2016 to 2017. 3rd Grade made a 2% gain in Math; 4th grade made a 13% gain in Language Arts and a 9% gain in Math (100% of our 4th grade students passed Language Arts and Math!!!); 5th grade made a 3% gain in Language Arts, a 10% gain in Math, and a 3% gain in Social Studies.
Our Odyssey of the Mind teams continue to soar! Three teams competed in the 2016-2017 competition, two teams advanced to the state competition, and one of our teams advanced to the Odyssey of the Mind World competition.
DeKalb Regional Science Fair – our team received 3rd place in the District wide Science competition.
All 5th Grade students participated in the Science Fair. Three students advanced to the district competition.
Over 80 students are in the program.
APS has several 4th and 5th graders who are now a part of the prestigious Duke TIP program.
Gifted students have participated in Scratch Computer classes, GA State Saturday School for gifted learners, and SEMMA courses at Fernbank Science Center.
STEM Days/Nights took place each semester to engage parents in the learning that takes place daily at APS.

Writing across the Curriculum - Teachers utilize Writers Workshop in the classroom to raise student achievement in all content areas
ActivBoards in all classrooms.
Wireless access in all classrooms with the ability for 90 devices to connect in each room.
2:1 technology that provides lap top carts to each grade level.
APSEF funded mobile technology classroom that includes 30 iPad minis, Mac Pro and Apple TV for streaming to each classroom’s ActivBoard.
All teachers have been trained on the Lucy Calkins writing model, STEM, and Writing Across the Curriculum.
APS teachers conduct student led conferences for students to fully discuss their learning and progress with parents.
After School @ Ashford Park - (ASAP) serves 100 kids each day of the week. Students receive homework support and enrichment activities in German, Computers, Arts and Crafts, Physical Education, Science, and Cooking. This is one of the largest program in the district.
Ashford Park Run Club reaches capacity every semester and is run completely by parent volunteers.
APSEF supported over $31,000 in Curriculum Enhancements and $8000 in Professional Development during the 2016 – 2017 school year through the use of Brookhaven Bolt Funds and Eagle Fund donations.
PTA provided over $22,000 in classroom materials to support our students and teachers.
German Immersion grant received for books to be housed in Immersion classrooms and the media center.
Our teachers received Professional Development grants from the American Association of Teachers of German and the Captain Planet Foundation to enhance our ability to implement STEM. During the summer, our teachers participated in STEM workshops at UGA, Kennesaw State University, and a university in Germany.
The City of Brookhaven and the DeKalb County School District agreed on an Inter Government Agreement (IGA) to construct a new teacher parking lot for the 2016-2017 school year.
The Ashford Park School Education Foundation funded a new blacktop for the 2016-2017 school year.
